Mahatma Gandhi Granthalay, Sangli is the only book library in India, whose corner-stone was laid by none other than Father Of The Nation, Mahatma Gandhi ! It is also the Only Library which is blessed by Mahatma Gandhi and Lokmanya Tilak.
Established in 1916 on Ganesh Chaturthi day, Mahatma Gandhi laid its corner stone when he visited Sangli on 12 th November 1920 . This is the only library in India,named after him, and of which he laid the corner stone. Prior to that in February 1916, Lokmanya Tilak too visited the library and wrote a note in our visitors book in his own hand-writing !
Since then, the library has not looked back, and today with well over 43000 books on its shelves in Marathi,Hindi,Gujarathi and English, it has one of the best collections of the books.
